The county seat of Alamance County is Graham, located 50 miles northwest of Raleigh and 23 miles east of Greensboro. Graham is home to about 15,000 residents and is part of the Burlington, NC metropolitan area with easy access to Interstate 85/40 and NC highways 54, 87 and 49. Amtrak service is available in Burlington and international airports are a short drive away in Raleigh (RDU) and Greensboro (PTI). There are numerous recreational options for residents of Graham. The Graham-Mebane Lake is a 660-acre municipal reservoir that offers boating and fishing. Access to the Haw River is available on Highway 54. The Graham Recreation & Parks Department operates a number of parks, picnic shelters, recreation centers along with a number of youth athletic programs for the enjoyment of residents.
The local school system is known as Alamance-Burlington School System and schools include Graham High School, Graham Middle and North / South Graham Elementary. Private schools include Alamance Christian School. Graham is also home to Alamance Community College, an excellent college that is part of the NC Community College system.
